Keeping it to a minimum

Not a week goes by without hearing or reading “less is more”, and because we don’t want you to get sucked into the world of clichés, we’re going to say it in an exotic way: Minimalism is extra! We’ll give you the lowdown on bringing in more energy into your living room.

  1. Natural light plays an important role in minimalist living. If the you have plenty of windows, avoid obstructing them so you can open them often to allow the essential good energy to flow.

  1. Declutter and toss the items that you no longer love. If they no longer bring you joy, they will tie in with the new energy you are creating.

  1. Choose a base colour to start and decide on the accent tones to go with it. Your creativity may want to run wild but limiting your choices will yield better results. Minimalism does not mean you must have all-white décor that makes your cringe whenever your children run into the living room.

  1. Focalise and localise the smaller items you want to have on display. Having clutter is just as bad as having things scattered, so emphasise focal points. With sentimental items such as photos and small plants, it is better to have them neatly placed on a single table or shelf.

A brownie point: The openness of your living room will make it far easier to clean, and you will have fewer things to lift and shift.
